A follow-up eye exam and another supply of eye drops for Gorilla, a rabies vaccination that was about to expire, going through 2 months of mail (nothing important, of course), delivery of the replacement gear for our tongue jack and a set of airbags for the rear springs in our truck, lots of time with visiting family who we drove to the airport this afternoon and some appreciated time for just the two of us. Juneau's been great, but we'll be about ready to get back to our comparatively slow-paced life of constant travel tomorrow.

The Flume Trail is a walkway built on top of a 200 year old wooden pipe diverting water from Gold Creek, the site of the main gold strike in Juneau. A walk up - yup, you guessed it - Gold St from downtown winds into the hills, across an impressive curved wooden vehicle bridge, and out to an interesting Mining Museum, but the return trip on top of the flume was the real highlight. Plus, you're dumped out in the hills on the opposite end of Juneau and can circle back by the Governor's Mansion to wherever you started. @lauradomela and @weaselmouth This is a fun one for when you're in town. #juneau #flumetrail

Basketball in the water behind the Crown Princess. Guess someone got some delusions of grandeur after watching an NBA playoff game. I like to think I could hear a dude leaning over the top railing of the sports deck yelling "Little help?" #juneau #crownprincess #princesscruises

View of the Gastineau Channel and cruise ships from the Mt. Roberts tram in Juneau. We're kinda loving this little town, at least the parts not owned by the cruise ships. Some fun places to eat, interesting shops including one dedicated to "mantiques" like vintage propellers and engine parts and of course, Alaskan Brewing Company beer on tap everywhere. It also helps that we've been staying in a nice three bedroom apartment with my my mom, brother and sister-in-law and niece (who thankfully loves our kids. Read: date nights!). A few more days here, during which we'll hopefully receive the replacement gear for the electric tongue jack and a set of suspension airbags for the truck, and we'll continue north. #juneau #mtroberts #mtrobertstram #airstreamtoalaska

Just one more from the glacier that's just too good not to post. I neglected to mention that the reason it was so important that we get to Juneau yesterday was that we were meeting some of my family who had just finished an Inside Passage boat trip and only had a few days to hang out. When we all got to the glacier this morning, there were a lot of people despite the pouring rain, but as the clouds cleared a bit, so did the crowd, and we had the spit at the base of Nugget Falls all to ourselves. That's when things got a little silly posing with my niece for my sis-in-law's signature mid-air jump pic. And yes, we do have two of these Deuter KidComfort II backpacks. We'd had one for Wynne since she was tiny(er) and bought a second off CraigsList a while back in Vancouver for Mae. #mendenhallglacier #juneau

New family pic on the spit at the base of Nugget Falls with the Mendenhall Glacier in the background. And yes, Mae's somewhere in that backpack with a full MEC fleece suit under a rain suit. #mendenhallglacier #juneau #glacier #deuter #kidcomfort #babybackpack #fulltimefamilies

This peak has to have a name, but I don't know it. Nicely framed through the window on the aptly named Observation Deck. #mvtaku #alaskamarinehighway #lynncanal

Man, it's important to stay flexible. Funny, when things don't go the way I expect at home, I get all bent out of shape 'cause I think they *should* just work. But on the road, it's like a challenging puzzle to get all the pieces to fit, and you get this sense of satisfaction when even a few unexpected ones do. Propane runs out. Electric tongue jack still broken so use manual crank to unhitch the truck to get some. Decide to wait on ordering new jack for $300. Get propane filled. Now fridge won't light. Will have to pay for electric to run it while we leave the trailer for a trip to Juneau. Early morning wake up. Call Michigan and find out a $30 part will fix electric jack and can be sent to Juneau. Save $250. Learn that morning ferry to Juneau has been cancelled. Afternoon ferry takes 4 1/2 hours and is vetoed due to fear of seasickness. Find a flight on a small plane later in the day. Need to find a kennel for the dog. People sitting behind us watching basketball last night run one. Leave a message. Walk to cinnamon buns while Mae sleeps. Bakery owner confirms that she gets seasick but never on the big, slow ferry. Send text to Ann to not worry about seasickness. Walk to public library and find out story time starts in 10 minutes. Puppets, music, stories, painting. Voicemail received confirming electric jack part has been overnighted. Afternoon ferry plan approved and booked. Return to trailer just as Mae wakes up. Try fridge. It lights. I love it when a plan comes together. #airstream #airstreamwithkids #liveriveted #myrivetedlife #haines #airstreamtoalaska #stayflexible

Yep, yessiree, what you got yersself right there is a stripped idler gear, my friend. Thanks to great customer service from someone named Bob at Barker Manufacturing (Bob Barker?), a new one ($31.99) is on its way from Battle Creek, Michigan to Juneau, Alaska as I post this. Now if we can only figure out how to get to Juneau since our ferry this morning was cancelled... More on that as it develops. #upclosepicturesofstrippedgearswithalotofgreaseonthem
