View Larger | View on Instagram In the afternoon, we drove downtown and took a ride on the SkyView ferris wheel overlooking Olympic Plaza. As the wheel started to move and we were lifted up, Wynne's face assumed a quizzical expression, and she said calmly "I don't really know what's happening." As we crested the top and began down the other side, Mae broke out a recently added new word, "Fall? Fall?" #travelwithkids #familytravel #atlanta #olympicplaza #skyviewatlanta

View Larger | View on Instagram My mom flew into Atlanta this week to visit, and this morning, we all drove about 20 minutes to a non-descript, low rise building of white brick to visit The Names Project AIDS Memorial Quilt. The quilt consists of more than 48,000 3' x 6' panels commemorating more than 94,000 people lost to the epidemic. The panels are sewn together into blocks of eight measuring 12' x 12' and make up over 54 tons of fabric. When last displayed all together in 1996, the entire quilt was big enough to cover the entire National Mall in Washington D.C. and they receive on average one new panel a day. The curator took us back to the shelves piled high with quilt blocks and brought out three with panels that had been submitted in memory of my mom's brother (my uncle) and his partner who died in 1996 and 1997, including panels from family members, friends from their church and neighborhood and members of the medical staff who cared for them. It's hard to know quite how much to explain to the kids, but we did tell Wynne that, in addition to being named after her grandfather Winthrop, she was also named after his son Win Jr. who we were there to remember today and that this quilt was a way to think about someone who was gone and remember that we need to work to help anyone who's sick. #namesproject #aidsmemorialquilt #roadschool

View Larger | View on Instagram We spent the morning at the great new playground at Chastain Park where a sign declared "No Horesplay." In the afternoon, we broke the rules. Wynne was nervous before but incredibly calm and confident while riding. After one loop around the riding ring, my cousin Kim asked Wynne what we should do next. She said, "We should say 'Walk on!'" and she gave Scooby the pony a little nudge with her heels. #childhoodunplugged #horseplay

View Larger | View on Instagram The one thing @advodna_ann wanted to do while visiting my cousin in Atlanta was to take Wynne out to her riding stables. We had no idea she'd pick Wynne out a pony and take her for a loop around the ring. This could have been a huuuuuge mistake. #happylittlegirl #expensivehobby #wontfitinthetrailer

Big news!!!! Okay, I guess that could be misleading since the news is actually just that we stopped by the @tiger_adventure_vehicles shop this morning. We saw one of these awesome rigs on the road on the FL and when we googled them, realized they were made in South Carolina. We've read a lot about the Traveling Tortugas who have taken one of these to far away places on the globe and wanted to take a look. You know, can't hurt to look. Like, just in case... Well, turns out they're pretty awesome. Love the floorplans with an L-shaped couch that converts to a dinette and full bed plus a cab over bed that's perfect for kids. Super efficient design, well-equipped with batteries/solar/storage tanks and built on any capable truck you choose. We'll take one Malayan HT on a 4x4 crew cab F550 please. #adventuremobile #tigeradventurevehicles #overland #plustheyrealuminum #airstream #truckcamper

Enjoying our first campfire in a month at Sesquicentennial State Park is about 150 times better than the day started out. Plus we're across from an Airstream we haven't met yet and a few sites away from another one belonging to a nice couple from coastal NC (though I may just like them because they said we were the youngest Airstreamers they'd ever seen). #stillgettingusedto44 #airstream #airstreamwithkids #liveriveted #myrivetedlife #sesquicentennial

This day kinda sucked. It started with the 4 yr old not following directions which resulted in "consequences" of losing the iPad for the drive today which actually ended up being more of a punishment for us which led to short fuses all around, especially when compounded by a missed nap for the toddler and traffic on the road. And then we opened the door to find this. Apparently, the fridge hadn't been clicked closed and swung open, likely repeatedly, with enough force to bend the pins that keep it in place enough for it to slip out and crash onto the floor and eject the fridge contents. Add the new planter to hold the assorted plants Wynne insists on bringing home from the supermarket that I made from the scraps left over from the spice rack falling off the dinette (we forgot to put it away) and dumping dirt everywhere, and it was a freakin' mess. But instead of pushing us over the edge, we just had to laugh. I went right to work removing the freezer door and clamping the bent fridge pins against the metal fire ring with vice grips so I could mangle them straight with a hammer while @advodna_ann and the kids swept up the dirt and collected stray hard boiled eggs from the floor. Within 20 minutes, we had everything back together and for some strange reason, felt like the first part of the day had never happened. I guess we just needed a destroyed trailer to reminded us of what it feels like when we're all working together. #airstream #disairganization #liveriveted #myrivetedlife #lifeontheroad #realtalk
