For some unknown reason, the provincial park we're staying at decided that today would be "Halloween in the Park" for the kids. They left flyers on all the campsites to put some yarn on their site post if they were participating, and with the girls dressed up in last year's Halloween costumes excavated from somehwere deep deep in the bowels of the Airstream, we joined a group of about 15 kids trick-or-treating through the campground. An unexpected good time. The lighter gray JB Weld fix on the broken antenna crank has held for over a year, despite the extra weight on the arm from our additional wifi antennas. Actually, the fix is the strongest part since this time it broke in a new spot. Another layer of epoxy putty, and we should be good for another year. BTW, the exhaust fan handle in the bathroom has the same pattern. #dadaplaydoh #jbweld #roadfix

It's hard to find private space in 187 sq ft. We're all a bit tired and the weather is dreary, so we're holed up inside watching choppy Olympic coverage through pixelated digital reception. It's supposed to get back to unseasonably warm PEI weather tomorrow, and we're excited to check out a horseback riding stable and the pool we passed on the way into this provincial park. Basinhead Beach has been named one of the best beaches in Canada, and when we arrived to a full overflow parking lot and saw the throngs below, we knew the word had gotten out. Our usual response would be to head somewhere else, figuring the crowds would ruin it. But when we drove through the main parking lot, a close spot opened up in front of us, so we grabbed it. And when we walked onto the very crowded beach and saw an open spot of sand in front some perfect little playing waves sweeping around the breakwater, we dropped our towels and waded in. And when the yahoos - young and old, trim and not so much, men and women, boys and girls - lined the edges of the 10-15 high wooden channel running from the beach to the river to execute their most impressive (or otherwise crowd-pleasing) jumps and then ride the current down the chute, we jumped (well, I did). And I gotta say, it was a pretty awesome beach! #pei #princeedwardisland #basinhead #basinheadbeach

Yesterday morning, our little group went separate ways. Hardest on the kids, easiest on our livers. Okay, fine, I got a little nostalgic while the kids had their art supplies out and expressed myself in paint. We actually didn't go anywhere and stayed for a day at Basinhead. Now we've gotta figure out if we want to head south to Five Islands Provincial Park, stop in Georgetown to see Panmure Island and possibly attend a music festival or head north a little earlier than planned for some extra time looking for music on the Ceilidh Trail in Cape Breton. Another awesome sunset on PEI, although driving around an island, you never quite know which direction it's gonna come from. After happy hour (happy for everyone since the kids cozied up on the couch in the Airstream to watch a movie), we made a campfire and s'mores. Hot tip we learned from some Canadians last summer, they sell these cookies called "Digestives" in the supermarket that have chocolate on one side and make the ideal pre-Hershey'd bottom and lid for your perfectly toasted mallow. As @advodna_ann settled the kids, I followed the sound of a fiddle to a young guy sitting outside a camper, and invited him back to our campfire. We talked about the similarities and differences - in origin and evolution - between the Cape Breton style fiddle he'd learned from his family and the Bluegrass I'd been into for about 20 years now. With my mandolin out, we traded a few songs and I did my best to accompany him on a whirlwind of reels and jigs he'd known for years but couldn't tell me the names of. @bodes.well got a nice shot of the scene on their feed. #airstream #littleredairstream #liveriveted #myrivetedlife #princeedwardisland #pei #capebretonfiddle #smores

For some reason, we all always tend to hang out at the smallest rig, and somehow they're always pulling more stuff out of it for everyone. Beers, hyper-local potato vodka, bacon, coffee, bubbles and markers for the kids. While we pieced together our reservations for PEI National Park a few days before arriving, @mali.mish and @bodes.well just let things happen. Yeah, they had to spend one windy night up the coast at a Provincial Park, but then were able to grab two sites here right across from each other and much closer to the beach than us. In the end, it's always a mix of planning and going with the flow. The kids have been having fun running with a posse. After learning a game called "Crossing Canada" from a kid at the playground which was a bit like "Red Rover," these NIT's (nomads in training) modified it so even if you weren't selected to "Cross Canada" by the border agent, you could always sneak up to the border and just run across with as many eggs and chickens as you could carry. #nomadsintraining #parentingontheroad #littleairstreamfriends

I didn't get to post this the other day because the video of @advodna_ann in the wind had us laughing hysterically and needed priority, but while our detour out to the aptly-named Cape Enrage was so foggy we could barely see the lighthouse or the zipline that seemed to extend out over the breakers, this pullout on the beach that we inconsiderately hogged all for ourselves to watch the crashing washes through our big side windows, was well worth it. #yeahthatwasonesentence #windy #longwinded #airstream #liveriveted #myrivetedlife #bayoffundy #capeenrage

We drove into Charlottetown this morning to check out a cool, mostly indoor farmers market with butchers, fresh produce, bread and flowers, plus great food stalls. Definitely the kind of place I wish we had back home. I had probably the best meal I've had in the past 8 months of travel (which has included Nashville Hot Chicken, New Orleans beignets and Maine lobstah!), melt off the bone ribs with an amazing sauce over rice and ginger vegetables from a little African food stall. Yes, in PEI. We stopped on the way home for a big grocery resupply after the scarcity of the New Brunswick coast and some essentials like a new CO2 canister for the fizzy water machine. The @bodes.well's still call us "The SodaStream" ever since we fuzzed them up a bottle somehwere deep in the Yukon tundra. I keep telling them, I'd carry one whether I lived in an Airstream, a '79 Bus or a '63 Beetle. #airstream #liveriveted #myrivetedlife #princeedwardisland #sodastream #charlottetown
