Basinhead Beach has been named one of the best beaches in Canada, and when we arrived to a full overflow parking lot and saw the throngs below, we knew the word had gotten out. Our usual response would be to head somewhere else, figuring the crowds would ruin it. But when we drove through the main parking lot, a close spot opened up in front of us, so we grabbed it. And when we walked onto the very crowded beach and saw an open spot of sand in front some perfect little playing waves sweeping around the breakwater, we dropped our towels and waded in. And when the yahoos - young and old, trim and not so much, men and women, boys and girls - lined the edges of the 10-15 high wooden channel running from the beach to the river to execute their most impressive (or otherwise crowd-pleasing) jumps and then ride the current down the chute, we jumped (well, I did).
