Pretty sweet #moochdocking spot with great friends and a just a few block walk to the cool town of Montpelier. Oh, and a planter box full of green beans that need to be eaten before the frost. . This afternoon, I took the opportunity to replace our propane regulator and pigtails since, despite a few exhaustive leak tests with soapy bubbles, I haven't been able to get rid of a faint gas smell right around the tanks. I think the rubber on the hoses and regulator just gets tired after 10 plus years. So far, zero odor after the replacement. Small price to pay for confidence. . I also took advantage of having my buddy around to pull our fridge out to run cable for a cool new 4G Trucker antenna I'm testing out for Wilson Electronics. Excited to give it a serious workout in the Adirondaks. . #airstream #liveriveted #myrivetedlife #sisterhoodofthetravelingparents

In May of 2013 while on a 5 week loop of the Southwest in our 19' Airstream with a 15 month old (Wynne), we emailed @wandering_tim and @wandering_amanda out of the blue after reading about some hikes on their blog. They told us where we could find them parked on the edge of a cliff 1000 ft above the San Juan River in Utah at Goosenecks State Park, and that was one of our early (@aluminarium, you'll always be our first) nomadic meetups. We ended up traveling the next summer with them in Canada, a trip that solidified our desire to go "full-time" soon after. . Well, tonight we finally got a chance to meet back up for pizza in Vermont. With all the support and communication we do online, it felt like no time had passed, but we left agreeing to not let another three years pass! . #airstreamfriends #nomadiccommunity

Fall has definitely, well... fallen here in Vermont. Of course, the locals are all still walking around in shorts, but we've broken out the poofs and put up the Reflectix in the trailer (also for a bit of stealth). Today was clear, beautiful and sunny enough for a mac and cheese picnic on the grass in front of the Vermont College of Fine Arts. #montpelier #macandcheese #ftsapparel #followthesun

A look through the windshield yesterday as the skies cleared, and we crossed paths with a pack of motorcycles out for a beautiful Saturday ride through the White Mountains. I may or may not have spent a couple hours on Craigslist last night looking at old Honda Scramblers. . The rest of the drive to Montpelier, VT to moochdock at an old friend's went smoothly, except for the part where we assumed we'd be able to find a dump station just before arriving. It seems septic systems in rural Vermont aren't cheap, and so some parks don't have 'em and others want to charge a fortune for them. We ended up driving 40 minutes out of our way and still had to pay $25 to use one. At least the next four nights in a driveway are free. #costofdoingyourbusiness #airstreampottytalk #lifeontheroad

Despite being only about half as high as most people from CA or CO would consider a real mountain, Mt. Washington's position in the path of storms coming up from the Gulf towards the cool Atlantic can result in weather not too different from that on Mt. Everest. With a record low of -46C (much lower with the hurricane force winds that batter the peak an average of 110 days a year) and a top recorded wind speed of 231 mph, a day like ours just below freezing with 30-40 mph winds is a rare treat. We posed for the obligatory summit picture, but you can tell by the kids' faces, they were ready to get back in the car! #mtwashington #newhampshire #travelwithkids #familytravel

We woke up this morning with the sun shining through our Fantastic Fans, so instead of hitching up, we threw the kids in the car for a dash to the top of Mt. Washington. . Completed in 1861, the 8 mile auto road climbs 4600 ft to the top of the highest peak in the Northeastern US (6,145 ft). Because of concerns about the incline (both going up *and* coming down), there is a detailed list of specific makes and models of cars prohibited from driving the road (mostly those without a low gear) along with restrictions on payloads, wheelbases and widths. . While there were a couple short spots of dirt and lots of narrow sections with no guard rails and lots of air below, it was a great road and very cool to climb up out of the changing New England foliage into a sparse alpine environment above treeline. . #mtwashington #mtwashingtonautoroad #whitemountains #newhampshire

Yesterday, the weather wasn't really cooperating for our planned drive to the top of Mt. Washington, so we shopped some pre-season gear sales at the bottom of a New Hampshire ski resort (not that we had space to bring anything back to California), had a big lunch at the Woodstock Station Brewery and then headed up to Franconia Notch. Technically, we then headed back to Woodstock to retrieve Mae's red rain boots she'd kicked off underneath the lunch table and then returned to Franconia Notch. . The Flume Gorge turned out to be a nice alternative and perfect in the misty weather. These boardwalks cling to the steep granite walls, carved shear by the rushing water, and now draped with hanging gardens of moss and mushrooms. . #whitemountains #franconianotch #flumegorge #newhampshire #newhampshirestateparks #familytravel #travelwithkids

When you see a road called the Kancamagus Highway on the map, you take it. Though it was the first day of Fall, we were a couple weeks early for this notorious leaf-peeping road through the White Mountains. That's probably why we were able to snag this non-reservable first-come site at Crawford Notch State Park. The only challenge was about a 200 ft back in! #airstream #liveriveted #myrivetedlife #whitemountains #airstreamandfoilage #aluminumfoilage
