2015 March through August - Petaluma to Alaska

We don't necessarily plan every day of a long trip like this, but with distances this huge to cover, we at least needed to slap some test dates onto a calendar and map out some rough driving days to even see if it was possible to do in the time we have. We'll be moving north as early in the season as we think we can, both because the drive through BC and the Yukon will take us a long time at our pace and because we're thinking we'll try to get across to the East Coast before around Halloween and want to enjoy the trip across.

The general idea is to keep driving days to under three hours and add layover days between them as often as possible. In reality, we may choose to blast out a couple five hour days in order to stay put at some particularly nice places, and the stops marked on the map and the calendar are only a first idea based on quick readings of The Milepost and the Church & Church Alaskan Campingbook.

Oh, and it's worth mentioning that we'll be flying home to Northern CA for about two weeks from Anchorage in mid July to see friends and family and attend a music festival that my brother puts on in the redwoods near Mendocino.

Feel free to comment or get in contact with any favorite sites/sights along the way or if your travel plans might have some overlap!
